Summary

To provide direct patient care during the perioperative phase. To function independently with surgeons and apply knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. Functions under supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse. When not assisting surgeon, will function as surgical scrub technician. Complies with the objectives and policies of the hospital and with surgical services standards of care. Required to work flexible hours and be on call nights, weekends and holidays. Knowledge and adherence of monitoring and compliance with all regulatory and licensing agencies including, but not limited to: TJC, OSHA, AHCA, CMS, etc. Performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned and per hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

• Graduate of a formal accredited surgical technician-training program
• Graduate of a formal accredited surgical first assistant training program

Minimum Work Experience

• Graduate of a formal accredited training program

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Surgical technology certification required
• Current CST/CSFA certification required
• BLS certification

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• Basic surgical scrub skills in all services required
• Surgical first assistant skills in all services required
• Specialty skills for a particular service desirable
