Full Time #ALDIND Histology Laboratory - Yale Campus Schedule: 3am - 11:30am Eligible for $5,000 Sign-On Bonus and $2,500 Relocation Bonus Job Summary: The Lead, Histology Technician prepares and processes tissue samples for microscopic examination under Histologist supervision. This role ensures the quality and accuracy of prepared slides to assist in the diagnosis of diseases. Minimum Education: Associate degree or equivalent hours in a related biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnician, HT certification. Work Experience: Minimum 1 year of related experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Effective interpersonal written and oral communication skills. Competent in Immunohistochemistry and Special Staining techniques. Demonstrated understanding of the equipment used daily; including, but not limited to, microtome, stainer/cover slipper, slide labeler, cryostat, tissue processors. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and self-motivation. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Coordinates daily activities of histology lab, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to protocols. Maintains and operates laboratory equipment according to established protocols. Collaborates with Histologist and other laboratory personnel to ensure accurate and timely diagnosis. Maintains diagnostic viability of all specimens and ensures correct patient labeling. Performs Immunohistochemistry and other special procedures as requested by the Histologist or other laboratory personnel. Reviews specimens and solves problems related to processing of surgical specimens for analysis to ensure timely delivery of reports to Histologist. Performs routine histology procedures including receipt, grossing, processing, embedding, cutting, and preparation of routine and special stains. Manages inventory and orders supplies to ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and efficiently operating. Documents and tracks specimens and results accurately. Trains and mentors new histology technicians or other laboratory staff. Decision Making: Independent judgement in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision. Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not lead). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Special Job Dimensions: None.
